GAA Meditation Meeting Format

Hello Everyone, welcome to the daily GAA Meditation Meeting. My name is ______ and I am a gaming addict.

Mission Statement: Gaming Addicts Anonymous is a fellowship of people who support each other in recovering from the problems resulting from excessive game playing. GAA is not affiliated with any political agenda, religion, or outside interests. Our single purpose is to abstain from gaming and to help others find freedom from the effects of gaming addiction. We have no membership requirements beyond the desire to stop gaming.

Our groups share their collective experience and the principles that helped them. Each of us is free to try out or disregard the suggestions of the program and other members. We have no professionals and no affiliation with any professional or government services. Our groups are financed by voluntary contributions from members and accept no outside funding.

If there is anyone new to this meeting and/or meditation, you are all welcome. This is an open meeting and you do not need prior meditation experience. The purpose of this meeting is to provide a safe place for people to begin a meditation practice, improve on existing practice, or just have a moment of sanity in their day. We're using a brief meditation from an outside source. GAA is not affiliated with any outside resource and their meditation or literature. It does not necessarily speak for us and our experience. GAA does not promote specific higher power concepts.

In this meditation meeting of GAA we will complete a guided meditation that is ‘___’ minutes.

We start the meeting with the serenity prayer

Higher Power,
Grant me The Serenity to Accept the things I cannot Change,
the Courage to Change the things I Can,
and the Wisdom to Know the Difference.

Before we start on the meditation, does anyone have any questions about meditation?

Just a few quick reminders you might find helpful: Find a position sitting, standing or lying down. A suggestion is to sit on the edge of your seat in an upright yet comfortable posture. Keep in mind that if you only have a moment of awareness, you are still meditating & it still counts. You cannot meditate wrong. You may want to take a few long breaths before starting. We will start the meditation in a moment.

== Share meditation via audio on Zoom in advanced share settings and mute yourself ==

“Thank you for meditating with me”

Now we will open the room up for two-minute check-ins on how you are feeling in general or after the meditation.

Our goal is to listen and hear each other, not "cross-talk" or make suggestions.

This specifically means:

- not speaking/chatting during shares
- not speaking directly to or about someone else's share during your own share
- we refrain from private chat during someone's share, unless asked to be spiritual greeter or timekeeper

We try to focus on our recovery experience rather than the problem. In turn, we share, using "I" statements from our own experiences about our journey as we recover from gaming addiction.

Do we have a volunteer to keep time?

== Share Time ==

Thank you all for helping me with my own meditation practice & helping me stay off games one more day. You all being here helps me stay consistent. Please remember our principle of anonymity.

Who you see here, what you hear here, when you leave here, please let it stay here!

Are there any announcements for the good of GAA?

We are often looking for more meeting leaders. Our Saturday meetings currently have no regular leader. To lead a Meditation Meeting you need at least 30 days of continuous abstinence and to have attended at least 10 Meditation Meetings. If you would like to volunteer to serve as a meeting leader feel to contact me or another leader.
Feel free to join the Meditation Group WhatsApp: https://bit.ly/3HBkRn5
The next Group conscience on 7th September.

7th Tradition: Each GAA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. We have no dues or fees. If you are a member and would like to help with expenses, feel free to visit our http://cgaa.info/self-support webpage.

Close the meeting with an affirmation of the Meeting Leaders’ choice:
(Some possible Prayer/Affirmations for the Day):

Higher Power, grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can & the wisdom to know the difference.

  • Please help me and another addict stay away from that first game today.
  • May I be gentle with myself today. May I be open to help from higher power and the fellowship, which can lead me to recovery.
  • Just for today, I accept life on life’s terms. Just for today, I am grateful for all of the blessings in my life.
  • I am open and willing to accept that reality is exactly what it is at this moment.
  • I seek the serenity that acceptance brings, the wisdom to distinguish lower desire from higher purpose, and the courage to act as guided by power greater than myself.
  • Together we can do what we cannot do alone. Just for today, don’t game no matter what. And keep coming back, it works if you work it, so work it, you’re worth it.
  • May we have the humility to realize our ignorance, admit our mistakes and recognize our need for higher power. Help us to praise rather than criticize, to empathize rather than to discourage, to build rather than to destroy.
Hugs

19. Now that the meeting is over, we traditionally allow any newcomers to ask questions of people who remain, and allow anyone to share who didn't share during the meeting. Also, if you're open to phone calls with other members of the fellowship, we invite you to give your phone number, privately or, if you're comfortable, in the room's chat. Are there any questions or shares?

(THIS SECTION IS for the FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH 11AM EST MEETING ONLY)

Group Conscience

Today is a group conscience day. Are there any items for the agenda?

We start the group conscience with the Serenity Prayer:

Higher Power,
Grant us The Serenity to Accept the things we cannot Change,
the Courage to Change the things we Can,
and the Wisdom to Know the Difference.

Tradition Two
For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority - our group conscience as guided by power greater than ourselves. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
We close the group conscience with the Serenity Prayer
