From 4B: What are the twelve steps?

The Twelve Steps are a suggested program of recovery from gaming addiction that many of us have found useful. They are a blueprint for living involving spiritual principles that help us address not just our gaming addiction but the things that drove us to game in the first place.

Everyone is free to follow their own path in recovery. It is not a requirement of GAA membership that you work the steps. The only requirement is a desire to stop gaming.

If you do decide to work the steps, we have found it important to seek the help of an experienced sponsor. Step work can often involve reading, writing and sharing with a sponsor or trusted fellow. Working the steps is a journey that can take some time, some would say a lifetime. The emphasis is on progress rather than perfection.

Many who have worked the steps, and continue to work them, have found that they bring direction, hope and fulfilment in their lives. They are an opportunity to seek help in working through resentments, fears and shame and to find some freedom on the other side.
